so someone riddle me this on the census question

Why can't they just explain their rationale for adding the citizenship question as being necessary to inform the political debate over the effects and feasibility of legislation or constitutional amendments to enumerate based on citizens vs legal aliens vs peoples? That would be more or less less a stated intention that can't be dismissed as contrived, since the critics are accusing them of just that sort of thing. And what's the political cost? Democrats get to say "Gotcha! We exposed your conniving plan to prevent illegal aliens from being enumerated in apportionment. To which the vast majority of americans respond by saying, wait, why are we giving illegal aliens political representation in the first place? Its still a winning political issue, most Americans support the question and most would support citizen-enumeration anyway, so democrats would be able to scare up... the same crowd they're already scaring up with this census question fearmongering in the first place.

The democrats will use the narrative that the census will be used to conduct raids and destabilize neighborhoods. people wont be smart enough to realize that in reality this isn't true, many people already think it now. this entire census issue has just been bundled in with border detention centers, which are a far more juicy topic.

I think that the GOP has been stressing the relative non-issue of census counts for the reason you're outlining, it exposes unpopular radicalism in the core of the DNC's current agenda. they somehow got from "walls are a waste of taxpayer money" to "free healthcare for illegals, crossing the border should be a parking ticket, and we shouldnt even try to count how many illegals there are", all on a pamphlet demonizing trump detention centers with an Obama era photo.

2016 the DNC was militantly status quo, 2020 DNC is militantly progressive in a 360 degree array. that also somehow doesnt bring up legal pot or pardoning low level drug offenses. they just shout "end private prisons" into the nether.

Citizenship question is reasonable. So is voter ID. Voter ID would be less voter suppressionish if IDs didn't cost time and money to get.

Trump is segwaying today directly from the social media conference to a press conference announcing his executive order on the census.

Says that about gun ownership too durrr hurrr

The founding fathers if anything would have wanted us to use the second amendment to end the illegal immigration problem and they're morally right in this case.
