ill file this one under 'duh'

also theres something brewing at this hour. Pence airplane diverted and meeting canceled to return to white house. Europeans having some kind of security meeting. Reports that russia lost a top secret deep deep sea nuclear submarine prototype with 14+ dead in a fire

ahhh my first guess would have been something Iran, with Macron's call to them. so that's "good" news, the ruskie sub, as compared to pending war.

House panel sues Treasury, IRS over Trump's tax returns

Well the kangaroo court is off on another "fishing" expedition. Silly me, I always thought that you needed a "reason" to take someone or dept. to court. A reason other than "orange man bad" that is.

The executive branch refusing to comply with a lawful request from Congress seems to be an obviously legitimate reason to go to court.

Well then you probably won't mind if congress wants to, say....check everything you ever did with YOUR money, then.

/e In fact, I'm sure Congress won't mind if the WH wants to see all THEIR tax returns.

Congress has the authority to ask for any American's tax returns.

But no, asking for the president's tax returns isn't improper at all, especially when he already promised during the campaign to release them.

I do wonder if people like yourself ever think about consistency. Like had Hillary not released her tax returns, and won, you would oppose Congress asking for those?

Things like that would be almost as bad as if Congress wanted to pretend Hillary wasn't colluding with Russia, even though Trump was about to acquire evidence that she was.

/e Btw, Congress does NOT have the authority to ask for tax returns. Only the IRS has that authority.

no, the IRS has all the tax return records. why would they need to ask for something they originally printed, issued and kept a copy of?

you really are terrible at law/govt.

I meant as in an audit.

Congress does NOT have the authority to demand tax returns, unless it was evidence in an ongoing case. A legitimate case.

The only thing that will come out of this... "witch hunt" is ... 1984 in real life.
