Indeed, it is a very interesting dynamic that in many ways the end-game for both Hamas and Israeli leadership is the same: Cleanse the area of the 'other'. Israeli leadership hides behind the idea that they're "not as barbaric as Hamas", but yet they're engaging in behaviors that result in much the same outcome for the region.
israel is 100% open to a peaceful 2 state solution, the same can not be said for hamas or the gazan population who supports them. and even if we put that number at ONLY 30% that's like 1 million people.
we're going on 20 years since Israel ceded the land of Gaza, and hasn't had an active occupation of the area. they spend ungodly amounts of money blockading the area, occupying the border, repelling rockets, and providing water and electricity to the region. if Palestine rose up as a peaceful self governing region they'd have only positives.
the only thing to counter this is "well yeah but israel wants every last scap of land so badly that they'll murder over 2 million people just to get it" which seems silly at best.
israel gains very little by cleansing gaza, it just shifts where they have problems from. if gaza were cleansed we'd see a rise in tensions with lebanon, jordan, egypt, syria, etc.
