Actually not true. McConnell's argument was that the Senate/Congress didnt pay more attention to the developing epidemic because they were occupied with impeachment. Trump saying that he, personally, wasnt distracted by impeachment doesnt contradict that.
(Just to make that clear: McConnell's argument sucks, it's complete crap.)

I suppose a good measure of this debate could be evaluating what Trump did from February 5, 2020 (date of acquittal on both counts) through the first week or two of March before all of this really blew up.

And I'm guessing it's not much of anything, much like the rest of the West and the states of our union.

If you look at the tweet, you can see a list of his golfing days and rallies after the 5th. While also downplaying things.

Judging the reaction to this is like judging that pilot Sully who saved the broken plane on the Hudson river. Jumping the gun is just as wasteful as doing nothing in terms of the pandemic. If the virus was not harmful and the economy was shut down, everyone would still be pointing fingers. However there is no evidence that there would be more benefit if it was responded to any differently. You can say that Sully destroyed the plane or failed to get it back to the airport, but your ass wasn't in the fire either.

NZ shut down and aus didn't shut down, nz has 200 cases, we have 4,800.
