making broad claims about "the left" or "the right" is honestly a moot point these days.

like i get we all do it, but it just makes for an incredibly weak point. not only because of the wide division in both parties, but also because it sets up others for a no-true-scotsmen defense that's actually pretty valid.

we'd all be better off if we used terms like "republican congressman", "Democratic voters", "alt right online trolls", "White supremacist group members", "people who think France is ok generally", etc.

in 2016 the "Silent Trump Vote" was this mysterious thing. almost a joke to the left, almost a hope to the right. Now it's proven and quantified, and backed by consistent approval ratings on the 50-50 line. Election was razor thin, but came down to the electoral break down.

but the media runs "Biden Tops Trump" polls from Brooklyn New York as if it means anything. I fully expect a 2020 race that "looks close" when reading the media that is actually a blowout for Trump. Especially if he can get a deal at the Mexican border.

Yesterday I saw an article on Yahoo with Linda Sarsour dogging Trump for trying for peace in the Middle East. Unironically referencing her women's march activities as a credit to her. Then i scrolled to the comments section and every post was about her contradiction of women's rights and Sharia Law, as well as controversies she's had silencing women in the Muslim community. translation, no one's buying it but people are still reading it.

I really don’t understand the logic tbh. Wouldn’t it make more sense if the headlines were* “Trump is winning! If you don’t get everyone you love to the polls orange man will win again!”

Because the media are Democrat establishment not far left like the fox news right claim

You're looking at it from they are out to get Trump but they are actually hacking for the Dem establishment by manipulating the narrative to "this is the democrat/ these are the democrats that will beat the Republicans"

in some ways it's not necessarily untrue as Dem establishment are generally more marketable to non meme crowds but it's still hacking for the establishment

You make the false assumption that the media wants Trump to lose.

You've just bought the idea that the media is leftist at face value.

The media is leftist by happenstance, right winged media consumption was consolidated by Ailes in FoxNews. Left wing media consumption remained split among many sources, NBC, CNN, ABC, etc. The media all seems to have a leftist agenda because 9/10 outlets have a leftist audience. while 1/10 has a right winged audience. The want viewers, is all.

And they want money, Trump has given them all the money they could ask for. But beyond that they've also learned from Facebook, wherein spirited engagement provides the most clicks. aka get people to argue and you make money. people come to many news sites these days just to argue in the comments section. Fox benefits from leftists invading their site, the same goes for all the leftist sites.

Put it all together and what do you get? The media wants Trump as president for a never ending supply of headlines, and they want to craft their headlines to maximize engagement, aka blatantly BS headlines that are bias confirming.

it's 2019, we can just dispel of the media as a check to power or truth teller inherently. they want cash, as they always did. but good journalism is no longer paying. people think its a conscious choice by writers to write poorly, and that's silly. the demand has shifted, and no one wants to sell cabbage for a living when u could just grow strawberries.

yeah this. it's all a ruse to get money. abandon principled journalism because it doesn't pay - which is fine, but don't pretend

as much as the 'republican' media claimed the end was coming with President Obama in charge they loved their increases in revenues and profits stemming from being able to complain about 'the other team sucks blah blah blah'
only odd thing is part of this is the same 'republican' media fractured with President Trump, a few in support of him (Limbaugh, Levin, new media figures, some Faux news heads etc.), and them all the lefties and never-Trumpers against him. but as snipa said, everyone is making a lot of cash in the media field (except maybe buzzfeed 2.0 - only they could manage to muck this opportunity up lmfao)

Interesting point.

Beyond the media, imagine if a Democrat gets into office, who will all those people that have a sense of righteous indignation against Trump, at least from their perspective, rally against?

One can almost say the Democrats need the villain.
