I feel like this kind of understanding is so primitive it should be engrained into the psyche of not just humans but any multicellular creature or lowly protozoa on this planet. When one living creature uses its locomotive capabilities to propel itself towards another living creature and attempt to do it harm, the former is the aggressor, not the latter.
The guy was in his vehicle when a mob of rioters folded in around him on all sides, surrounding him. They aggressively approached him. Surrounded him. Chased him. Attacked him. He used what tools were at his disposal to escape their attack.
The guy in the car was not operating an industrial strength electromagnet to draw a mob of rioters with piercings, jewelry and metal plates on their bones towards him against their will. He is not the dark seer from dota 2 casting vacuum. He is not an inescapable gravitational singularity collapsing our planet inwards. Every single person who approached his vehicle did so willfully and illegally, as members of a rioting mob.

Curious what you would do in this situation. My money is on you would have done literally the exact same thing, being slowly and carefully trying to maneuver your vehicle out of the angry violent mob. Staying mindful these people just opened your door, attacked you, tried to pull you out of the vehicle and likely murder you.

Close second you would break down in frantic, hyperventilating tears, desperately searching for a pen to scribble “free palistine” on the back of your insurance papers to press up against the window, praying that is enough to appease the violent lunatics kicking and smashing your car with terrorist flags.
