Of the other 95%, covid is just 1 of an average of 4 causes of death on the death certificate.
Covid is just a contributor in most of the deaths, not the actual cause of death.
How it's reported though is that if covid is on the death certificate then covid is responsible, which is not the case in most circumstances.
For example, my grandfather smoked for 60 years, had COPD, was on oxygen, and was given only a few months to live. COPD is the cause of death but since he tested positive for covid after death, they also included that on the death certificate. He is now a covid death stat even though the death was caused by COPD.
