I'm not sure there will be nearly as much attention being paid to the next 2 Trump/Biden debates.

The point about the VP debate is a good one though. With Biden being ancient and looking his age, there will be increased scrutiny on Kamala. If she puts in a really bad performance, this might have an effect at the margins, with some on the fence voters saying "I really dont want this woman anywhere near the White House, let alone being one heartbeat of a septuagenarian away from taking over".

Pence really did Trump a solid in 2016. Then again he is a man of faith who doesn’t seem to rock the boat. Which is persona non-grata now in the USA.

he’s a little too close to the gop establishment and i know people hate him but none of the doomsday scenarios around him ever manifested

he’d likely be a boring President. like Eisenhower without winning WWII and maybe an interstellar highway instead of interstate highway. i’d be 100% fine with 8 years of boring Presidency after this election

i dont think this was his best performance. it doesn’t shock me either. it wasn’t his worst either, the first 2016 debate was much less coherent and then he got slammed with access hollywood tapes.

Yes Trump had some great one-liners but Biden got to repeat debunked lefty media talking points (again) with limited rebuttal

biden is running on a platform of half bernie 2016-2020 and half trump 2016. he is borrowing a populist message and pretending he isnt a swamp demon in the process. it’s on President Trump to defeat that message.

Between that lying and shouting down/talking over factual claims he didn't like as false and 'discredited' it was fairly effective strategy.

To be fair though, after this debate, Trump is really not in any position to complain about his opponent shouting him down.

why do they even need a moderator? just let stone cold be the guest referee and Biden already said he wants to fight irl anyway

its not like these two old guys are debating on substance:

“you failed for 3 year!”
“you failed for 47!”

“your son hates our country he sold us out”
“malarkey he served in iraq”
“not that son and you voted for the iraq war”
“you said he was a loser and the military too”

boring

I dont think it's over yet, but Trump's chances took a big hit tonight.
Before tonight, I would have estimated his chance of winning reelection at around 30%. Now, I would place it at 10-15%.

I see a lot of folks assuming or just plain ignoring the fact that Wallace was seriously "guiding" the debate with deference to Biden.

I see a lot of folks assuming that the American public won't notice this. Bad assumption. ^^

Wallace was a bad actor but I think the damage done through him manipulating the debate and the narrative will outweigh the fact that some people will recognize his biased performance.
The people likely to take issue with that aren't likely undecided voters or Biden voters.

Wallace conflated white supremacists and militia groups and then specifically asked Trump to tell them to stand down and when he did its a gotcha racist! moment.
