Light has a range too, you can use a light meter to test and see that any light will half its brightness if you double the distance away from it and this is because light expands into a circular 3 dimensional area, not some infinite straight line.

light is also inversely proportional to the square of the distance and dampens over time but its range is infinite. You would need a good understanding of physics to be able to understand this but it is explained here
