for once i'm with the pootin bootlicker. it IS true that the US wanted to "police" the world in recent decades. however, i think that all the failures might eventually sink in, especially now that their hegemony isn't unchallenged any longer, and they're losing their top spot to china.

that said, it's not like russia, or rather the soviet union, wasn't projecting its power globally when it was still a relevant political and economic powerhouse. they just happened to fail even sooner, and collapsed.

none of this should distract you from the FACT, however, that russia is currently not trying to "police" the world, not trying to "bring democracy" (and take some oil in return) to some unfortunate brown people in a remote place of this planet, but they're bombing, murdering, destroying a whole country in order to annex it, in order to expand their territory, to redraw international borders by force. no lazy whataboutism about other imperialist fuckery will somehow make that acceptable.

Both parts are true, I can have it "both ways." You've constructed a false dichotomy, because these aren't mutually exclusive. The whole world thought that Russia's military was extremely powerful, as Russia has long hyped, so their threats were taken seriously. First time they get into a knock-down drag-out fight, their vaunted strength is being shown for the lie it was.

You can only have it one way. They're not threatening the world, the lack of carriers proves that.

The US has constructed and maintains an incredibly expensive fleet of carriers and it's not to protect global trade as some dishonest users try to spin it and neither is necessary to push back a Russian carrier fleet because it doesn't exist.

The list of countries that suffered under them is long. The fact that it doesn't go all the way around the world can be attributed in part to not having carriers, sure, but the nukes can fly anywhere and so do the shipments of arms and personnel. Don't act like Russia didn't play at the hegemon game.
