Occurred in Monterey Park, near Los Angeles. Important Lunar New Year festivities were organized in this predominantly Asian city.

Another shooting in the United States. At least ten people died on Saturday January 21 in Monterey Park, in southern California. The shooting happened an hour after the end of a Lunar New Year party, which gathered tens of thousands of people in Monterey Park. This city, located about 13 km east of downtown Los Angeles, is home to a large Asian community.

"The suspect has fled the scene and remains nowhere to be found," Capt. Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office told reporters. According to press reports, the shooting occurred in a dance hall on Saturday evening.
The United States pays a very heavy price for the dissemination of firearms on its territory and the ease with which Americans have access to them. Around 49,000 people died from gunshot wounds in 2021, compared to 45,000 in 2020, which was already a record year. This represents more than 130 deaths per day, more than half of which are suicides.

Sad as hell. California disproportionatly leads the country in the most mass shootings (and most other heinous stats). The assertion the US has a gun problem misrepresents it. Reasonable to say there are problem pockets.

theres an obvious correlation ....

No, better to slice the mass shooting data by policy lines to backtrace to causes where constituents can effect change. Is the source of your data counting mass shooting events only or lumping more into it? The per capita correlation you are after is a variable, but the equation is dominated by State policy. It's reasonable to say some states have terrible gun policy leading to these numbers. Extremes being gun free zones with thugs packing all sorts of heat, and a over zealous stand your ground nonsense like Texas Chad Reed slaying. These outlier states shouldn't dictate gun policy for the other 40 who are median/avg

uhhh... no you don't.

US has an estimated 120 per 100 citizens, canada has under 35. now that's still pretty high, and for sure there is something culturally wrong with americans, but that doesn't mean that significantly stricter gun laws and fewer guns wouldn't have a massive impact on US death tolls - especially that of children.

you're correct on my numbers. they're wrong. the statistic i was thinking of was related to people and guns related to population density. and honestly has no real relevance to what i thought i was referencing. but uhh, yeah. i dont think in the US, that gun laws can fix the problem. gun laws just infringe and complicate things for law abiding citzens, and leads to them being punished.

i agree a drop in overall firearm density across the country would probably be positive, but again, only law abiding citizens would be giving up their guns. criminals, gangs, ideological extremists of all kinds will always be creating gun violence. from a 1 on 1 shooting, or murder, or drive bys, or extremists and the insane from going on planned rampages/massacres, these people will always commit these atrocities. no matter how strict the laws are regarding owning, operating, or modifying guns. Murder is illegal, people do it, 1st degree, 2nd, 3rd.... manslaughter. doesn't matter. if someone has the intentions, they will break any laws.

regarding the whole thing with kids, and gun deaths in the home, this is due to parents neglect. the guns are too easy to access, and the kids are not educated on their operation, this will always be a problem, i don't see how gun control can fix this. I'm sure if you looked at the statistics, most of the kids who accidentally kill themselves or other kids while playing with guns they shouldn't have, most of their parents are probably criminals. and I'm also sure many aren't supposed to have the guns in the first place.

the whole thing is fucked, but the answer definitely isn't to punish the law abiding citizens. a lot of these liberal governments(like here in Canada) have over reached regarding gun laws to the max, while at the same time, lowering mandatory minimums for criminals of all kinds, including ones who use guns. so that deflates their entire ideology. in Canada specifically, this type of hypocrisy is basically their modus operandi at all times.
