It is against FTC rules to make false claims about a product, service, or company. The claims must be pretty direct.

You may also be held financially liable for any damage caused by slander/libel in civil court.

Elected politicians or ones formally running for office are strongly protected under the 1st amendment (they can say whatever they want about another political candidate) and their advertisements must be shown on broadcast TV. The local TV station can not say that they want to refuse an advertisement due to being factually incorrect. That does not include cable/internet.

I don't know if that's accurate, but I know for a fact that advertisers are pausing their advertising campaigns in mass. At least two of the five major advertising agencies recommend to their clients (which are some of the biggest companies in the world) to pause their campaigns, mainly in a reaction to the major staff layoffs.

Also, I don't really see major car companies running ads there if it feeds money into a competing automaker and they have some of the deepest pockets in the media buyer (ads) world.
