The AFU are pretty serious, they've been trained by the best in the world and they have logistical support from the most powerful countries in the world.

I would bet that Ukraine is only in the news now because of inflation, gas prices etc which matters for midterms. The US population still isn't talking about stuff like their involvement in Somalia for example, because it doesn't affect them directly
