Oh my lord. This is a prime example right here of people thinking elementary school teachers deserve 200,000$ a year.
How much does the sandwich board people at McDonald’s deserve? $300,000? $350,000? They easily work twice as hard as teachers day in and day out.
There's a difference between value and time.
The janitors job here is significantly harder than mine from a "hard work" stand point. But the product of her labour is a clean toilet seat.
The sandwich maker makes a sandwich, a good teacher is an investment in thousands of children's futures and I would argue a good K-12 education is a key factor that leads into success in life. There's a value proposition there. The sandwich maker, not so much. Want good people, you have to draw them in, especially when talented individuals have ample opportunity elsewhere.
