By that I meant they usually pay the farmers unusually low wages. Wages so low that they can barely survive on it. And a few other issues, such as unsafe work environments, no benefits, no job security and all that good stuff we typically have here in the West.

Do these workers have access to those benefits in their home country? If so, why are they working for the cocoa companies?

Not sure. They probably don't. And if I were to guess why they would want to work for the cocoa companies, maybe it's because of a lack of job opportunities? Like they really have no choice. This is my guess.

Only corporations should be responsible for what corporations do. I don't know why you struggle so hard with this concept.

And just to be clear, the corporation is a legal entity that is separate from the people who own it.
