The Biden administration is decidedly anti-energy, and they've gone out of their way to discourage energy production within the United States. The administration's initial response towards high gas prices was positive, which Biden promoting it as part of a fantastic "transition" towards green fuels. Intense lockdowns, championed by Democratic politicians, have contributed to both supply and production problems, which when combined with sky-high government pandemic spending, leads to inflation. The United States wasn't the only country that spent heavily, although it spent more than most, so we shouldn't be surprised that we're not the only ones feeling the inflationary pinch.
On the other hand, much of the pandemic spending was or would have been ok'd by Trump, so there's blame to spread around. People are principally upset that Biden was so wrong. He insisted for months that inflation wasn't a concern, that "no" economist predicted sustained inflation, and the White House media account was actively making the argument that prices were going lower. The end result is that Biden looks incompetent. He was in denial that inflation was a problem, just like he was in denial about Afghanistan, the border crisis, and crime. The attempts to spin responsibility (i.e. "the Putin price hike") have fallen embarrassingly flat. The admin has run out of credibility with the American people. At this point in time, I'm not sure that Biden can do anything to fix the situation. He can't even resign, because Kamala is probably the only person polling worse than him right now.
