What about Florida’s rights as a state? There’s no gun on Mickys head, they are free to go do whatever they want. No more government favors though. Go build more in Cali they’ll put up with it.

I've already stated in this thread that I detest corporate welfare. But there are over 1800 special districts in Florida, and this is the only one targeted by the state. And you have the second-in-command of a state saying, on camera, that this is a direct result of Disney's protected free speech (as determined by Citizens United), and that the tax district would return if Disney capitulated. It's an illegal quid pro quo. Plus you have a potential 25% hike in property taxes for those two counties, and the fact that Disney pays Reedy Creek employees about 20% higher than the area average, so either county budgets will have to increase to keep those pay rates, or those employees are going to see pay cuts. Way to support the little guy.

>Giving a 220 billion dollar corporation a tax break through 50 year old outdated laws is good for the little guy

Lol. The fact of the matter is those counties will now collect more in taxes from Disney which I'm sure will offset property tax hikes in those counties.

They also pick up the infrastructure costs that Reedy Creek paid for, and you're forgetting the specific $164 million tax that Reedy Creek specifically levied that is illegal outside of that district. That tax revenue CAN'T transfer to Orange or Osceola County. So to make up for that loss, that's where the property tax hike comes into play. And you also have $1 billion in bond debt which the counties will have to take on, which will affect their ability to issue new bonds in the future.

Reedy Creek collects about $164 million in property taxes to maintain roads, utilities and other services, which is almost entirely paid by Disney.

If Reedy Creek were dissolved as it stands now, no other governmental entity would have the authority to collect that money, Randolph said.

“There is no windfall to the county,” Randolph said. “There could be a ton of expenses with no additional revenue to cover it.”

Well Disney should’ve stayed out of politics. No one put a gun to their head and said “what’s your opinion on teaching sexual abnormalities to 6 year olds?” and then forced them a second time to say “yea that should totally be in the curriculum”.

Citizens United gave them that right. Why do you hate the 1st Amendment?

The first amendment isn’t touched. It’s not illegal for them to have an opinion as a corporation. The people don’t like it and their elected officials are responding as such. That’s a consequence, not a breach of the constitution.

FFS, you've got the Lt Governor of Florida, on camera admitting that this is a quid pro quo. It's government putting specific conditions on speech (bend the knee or we'll spank you). It. Is. Unconstitutional.

Yes, the government can within the law say “no you don’t get extra benefits”. Welcome to dealing with government. They always hold all the cards. That’s why we’ve been revolting against a bunch of weak minded spineless weirdos that keep trying to force the government to mandate and command others to talk and act like them. As soon as the people you disagree with even begin to use that same government, it’s unconstitutional. No. Should’ve left us alone like we said. Go be weird at home. Quit trying to force your life onto others. We outnumber you. We outpower you. You need us. We don’t need you. Reality my guy.

Disney public stance is a veiled threat at campaign contributions. Hopefully everyone understands this. Fact of the matter is governments represent the people. The people of Florida are clearly against k-3 kids being taught this. Disney should literally have zero say in this and if they want to be bold and push a political side then they should be prepared for some sort of retribution.

But they're not going to pay extra taxes as a result of this. FL taxpayers will. You're cutting your nose off to spite your face.
