Cool story. The conversation wasn't about what individual item is most valuable.

In the case of oil I don't think the Saudi king can simply claim all of it because it's a natural resource that belongs to the country and citizens these days would revolt if the royals would simply take it.

Although it's true that the Saudi king makes sure he gets his share, he's ranked 3rd on the list of royalty by net worth (net worth $18 Billion) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_royalty_by_net_worth

the Saudi royal family is worth an estimated $1.4 trillion, and afaik that's an estimation made based on what they publicly show and oil revenue. i dont trust them to publicly show much of anything. for instance if they had ancient religious artifacts they may not show them in fear of how the population would react to knowing they have Mohamed's sandal in a vault.

but in both their case and Musk's case they can't liquidate. Musk cant sell off even 20% of his stocks without seriously tanking the value.

The ability to enforce ownership over a significant portion of a countries assets is what makes you one of the most wealthy in the world. Elon Musk doesn't have a private army and can't do that. That's why royals dwarf him.

that's what you think, if Musk takes to twitter he can mobilize the monster drinking Kyles and Chads of the US to HLOD dogecoin and drive their Toyota corollas with a 3d printed tesla body kit like at least 30 mins away to protest.

If that's the case, and we agree that Vlad is an autocrat, we should take into consideration Russia's vast natural resources oil / gas / gold / timber / all kinds of metals and minerals and add that to Vlad's total.

That should be fair considering you both agree that the same applies to other wealthy rulers ;)

I'm on the fence about if Vlad really counts. He can certainly enforce his will over a large share of the resources, but he is also in a much more precarious situation. He would be much easier to remove than the rulers of other countries.

No you're wrong.

Vlad has built several secret services and an entire army around him. This guy is not going to be "removed" unless he's poisoned but reportedly he's got special "food tasters" in place every meal in case somebody tries that.
