Sometimes, local developments are harbingers for and representative of larger societal trends or developments and have national relevance in this capacity. Minneapolis indeed seems like ground zero for the impact and pitfalls of the progressive criminal justice movement.

that user would be crying like a sissy and spamming like a dolt if the arsonist/convicted killer was a different race. it’s a total berned out racist so it cries like a coward instead of just ignoring the thread

And some times local news is just local news with no broader interest to the global audience. Like it sucks that this person burned down a building and someone died. It's weird that they lowered his sentence below the recommendation but the only people that will care are people that want to screech about BLM.

Except that it's not "random weirdness" which caused this lower-than-recommended sentence - it is due to an immensely dangerous reasoning by this DA which, if normalized, would have far-reaching and disastrous consequences for public safety. Even more than that: if we allow criminal justice to get overtly compromised by partisan preferences, this would eventually undermine democracy itself.

DA doesn't sentence?

DA doesn't sentence?

The prosecutor is the one who recommended an unusually lenient sentence against federal guidelines by arguing that the political motivation of the defendant was justified and should be a mitigating factor.
The tldr was basically that the BLM protests were such a just cause that violence in their wake shall be excused.

But you are of course right that the judge who went along with this line of reasoning deserves some blame too.

I've never credited you with having even the merest ounce of comprehension I'd expect of Torm1, Plasmasnake or even TiStuff, but it takes a remarkable amount of ignorance to not recognize a story about Mitch McConnell giving a speech on the floor of the senate and using the issue to scuttle President Biden's nominees, as a national new story. Really compared to you, I'd say only Saucy possesses the astounding quality of not being able to 'saw the foot'. This story is on the front page of major national news, because it is being discussed on a national stage. And with obvious purpose by McConnell, Hawley and Cotton: To juxtapose the Biden DoJ's explicit endorsement of political violence in this case with their crusade against January 6th protest participants.

Gee, you don't think he could be making a point about sentencing politically motivated rioters, do you?
