Like, yearly income at certain ages, home ownership, etc. I'll tell you which ones I check so we can determine if I've amounted to anything.

My buddy has real achievements to be proud of though, he doesn't need the unearned identity stuff.

People who aren't part of a disadvantaged minority community have no reason to make race a significant part of their identity.

I'm a white male. Why should I be proud of playing life on easy mode? If I work hard I'm basically guaranteed success. Very little gamble to it. What's really impressive is people who don't have such a guarantee and keep working and build something themselves. That's something to be proud of.

It's like if your parents are billionaires and you're proud of being a millionaire. Not exactly impressive. But if your parents are worth less than 100k combined, and you're worth more than them, that's something to be proud of.
