How did woke anything kill Diablo 3? I've genuinely never heard that take.

Carebear game full of political correctness. Listen to those follower / NPC lines it's unbearable. Check NPC lines in D2 for example Gheed or Alkor, talk to them after every quest update you'll be surprised. And that's how you make the game immersive it's taking place in a dangerous world overrun by evil.

Cartoony politically correctness has no place in ARPG videogames that are all magic, all fiction. And yes it got worse, D3 had a 2012 release but you can see that politically correct wokeness seeping in.

legit never gave a single shit about NPC scripts.

D3 died because of 2 pretty clear things:

1. the death of real money auction house combined with soulbound item drops. any diablo game depends greatly on economy, eliminating trading while turning loot tables into some perverse co-op single player hybrid took almost all incentive out of playing after max level and gearing phase

2. repetitive content updates and a lack of delivered PVP. the unending levels of mobs in rifts becoming the entire game, scaled content to char level, and shitshow pvp took all re-play-ability from the game.

seasons just created a race event that lasted 2 weeks before 90% got bored. idgaf what cain's grand daughter things about strong female leaders, and no one does.

The whole Woke thing wasn't even prevalent during the development of Diablo 3 (2007-2012 or so). The game failed because it was bad from a design perspective. Minimal to no player to player interaction which includes the lack of trading and lack of PVP. Poor itemization making Crit essentially the default go to stat. Limited character customization from a stat placement standpoint and I could go on and on.

Certainly I have never seen anyone say the game was woke or suffered from it. People criticize the art style because it went in a different direction closer to the more cartooney universe of the very successful Warcraft series but I certainly wouldn't say it was derived from wokeness.

lol I know D3 suck on all fronts I was replying to thor about wokeness in D3 --> In this case you can identify it by listening to the followers / NPCs.

If you gonna make a list of everything that sucks in D3 you gonna need pages

Can you be more specific on what lines are politically correct that you have an issue with?

Imo the game wasnt good because they spoon fed you the story at the expense of the gameplay loop

We weren't talking about the shit story or it being spoon fed, we were talking about political correctness / wokeness.

Fire up D2 and listen to Gheed after each quest which you obviously haven't otherwise you'd have known about Gheed mentioning that he's gonna smoke a bowl of certain weed or mentioning that the player is worse than a boil on his arse.

Listen to follower lines in D3 and the enchantress tells you she thinks about getting married while you're on your way fighting monsters, lol

D3 on release, with the SUPER grindy requirements for gem upgrades creating a huge economy, gold actually being valuable as an in game currency due to RMAH, and uniques being godly with highly variable stats, was a decent game.

not on par with D2, but if they just stuck with that model they'd have had a successful game through all of the expansions and bought plenty of time to make PVP scaling work.

Blizzard and Wizards of the Coast, 2 companies that dominated their sectors in the 90s and 2000s are now both just woke bastions struggling to reign in the inflated numbers they created by releasing unbalanced garbage games focused on higher integers rather than engaging battles and mechanics.

yes. most of not all the teams that made sc/diablo/wc and the good follow ups (sc bw, d2 and lod, wc2/wc3 and wow) are long, long gone from blizzard anyway

I've listened to literally every npc line in both d2 and d3.

Which is why I'm asking you to be specific.

https://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Gheed

Some juicy Gheed dialogue selected for ya:

"You're a brave soul! I'd sooner thrust my sacred scepter into the foulest, carbuncular trull than set one boot into that cave."

"Ah, Cain is here... another customer. I haven't been this pleased since a love-starved maiden let down a bit more than her hair."

"Guess what! I've named a boil on my ass after you. It, too, bothers me every time I sit down."

"I guess it's too late to take back some of the names I called you."

"When - or if - I get to Lut Gholein, I'm going to find the largest bowl of Narlant weed and smoke 'til all earthly sense has left my body."

"That old coot, Cain, is as crazy as a wet Quill Rat. I hear he survived whatever happened in Tristram. Personally, I wouldn't trust a thing he has to say."

There, I've proven my point now it's up to you to come up with counter argument good luck I'll wait ;)
