For many years, conservatives used to be the main culprits of censorship and cancel culture. However, at some point between 2008 and 2018, things turned around, and nowadays, it's liberals/leftists who are responsible for the bulk of censorship and attacks on free speech. One counterexample, and a weak one at that, does not disprove this trend.

Literally everybody knows the Democrats were the party for slavery, and similarly everybody knows that civil rights caused a massive party realignment.
