Looks like this deranged individual targeted a message parlor because they were sex-workers, not because they were Asian.

I'm less than surprised that it was spun into a full on frenzy of the narrative that it's an anti-Asian attack before we even know why he targeted that place. i find it odd that someone would kill sex workers, but i find it odd that someone would go on a shooting spree at all. if the dude turns out to be an anti-Asian nutso then sobeit, but the response seems odd for such a small body count attack by American standards. I had no issue labeling Dylan Roof as a racist shooter, as he targeted a historical black church. but there's a bit of daylight between black church and massage parlor. hell, a week ago if i posted that massage parlors were "Asian" i might be called racist as if im saying gas stations are Indian.

indeed. it certainly is plausible the guy views Asians as “sex workers” and wanted to kill them because of his derangement and inability to control his sexual perversions. this definitely has overtures of racism but is it straight up “he killed people because of their race like Dylan Roof” well, it’s not so clear cut. it’s definitely a hate crime imo, simply because this degenerate hated people (anyone associated with what could be viewed as ‘sexual’ acts) based on his own views

that said its a fucked up situation all around. a large percentage of massage palors are notoriously bad for their employees (almost to the point of exploitation of labor) already. now they are targets for dudes who cant get it up or cant keeper their zipper up atlanta has some pretty bad parts to it and a mayor who cannot protect its citizens (they had a CHAZ-Lite after a shooting there during a DUI stop and at the CHAZ-lite a young child was shot because a car took a wrong turn near the area). now the media irresponsibly fanning the flames again (shoot first, ask questions never). the powder keg probably wont go off this time but it certainly might

typical treatment of asians by the media, ignore their excellence in ivy leagues when they formulate "minority" stats, spotlight when they might have been targeted.

up in my neck of the woods Hmong people have experienced hate crimes for decades, most other places dont even know what Hmong people are, let alone that they're targeted, let along that they're US vietnam war vets essentially. in all of my classes in school asians got 2 footnotes, body counts on the railroad and an OOPSIE anecdote on internment.

Gay people don't have dads all the time. There's something going on with straight men that is quite concerning.
