Except that Cruz does not come from a notably privileged background. His parents were small business owners (data processing services for the oil industry), divorcees and again divorced their marriage with each other. His father was a political refugee from Cuba, his grandparents were a salesman and a teacher.

AOC's father was an architect, she spent the vast majority of her childhood in posh Yorktown Heights in wealthy and uber-woke Wechester County. She only lived the first 5 years of her childhood in the Bronx. AOC's "mamacita from the Bronx who's making ends meet as a bartender"-shtick is a very effective branding, but not really reflective of her vita.

Seems she didn't forget her roots. Do we have some link where she brag about being from the bronx etc ?

big oof. just when i thought you couldnt possibly become any cringier... the only people constantly going on about her being a bartender are right wing hacks trying to suggest that somehow disqualifies her - and her puerto rican roots are hardly a "shtick".

also, to talk about disingenuous "branding" in the context of aoc and rafael edward "ted" cruz is yet another example of hilarious irony that once again is completely lost on you, lol.

I'm saying thats how Cruz comes off, not his actual background.

Having two aunts who married into money after coming from dirt and a sister who married into a decently wealthy family I can confirm it doesn't take very long for people to totally lose touch and adopt that mindset.

I did not claim that AOC doesnt have Puerto Rican roots - I said that the influence they have on her life experience and outlook on society is overstated, given that she spent the formative years of her life in an upscale, 90% non-hispanic white Westchester suburb where the median family income is $137k, followed by spending her college years at the elite Boston University.

And yes, this is quite the contrast to the way she presents and frames herself, namely as the champion of downscale, underprivileged minorities.

If you read more carefully instead of grasping at straws, you'd have noticed that I blasted Cruz for his lack of authenticity. However, this kind of whataboutism doesnt excuse the inauthenticity of AOC's personal brand.

"New money proles" are often times the biggest snobs of them all. Usually, that's their clumsy way of trying to delienate themselves from their humble roots and to distract from their lack of proper upper-class habitus.

'overstated' by who? what has she claimed her heritage enabled her to do that you dispute? be more specific if you think you have valid criticism, and please tell me what enables YOU of all people to judge if her background justifies her "outlook on society", whatever you mean by that.
also, you know one can aim to be a "champion of the underprivileged" without being dirt poor yourself, right? if you have statements or claims that suggest she's lying or misleading about her background just present them. empty attacks, that just uncritically echo the establishment and right wing smears against her, are meaningless. provide at least SOME kind of substance if you think your criticism deserves to be taken seriously.

to me it just looks like you're grasping at straws tbh. her record so far has indeed illustrated that she's championing the causes of those that usually don't have a voice in american politics: average citizens - as opposed to the donor class.

you seem so desperate to attack her for something. it's the whole "bernie can't possibly be principled on taxing the rich and helping the poor, because he owns two houses and made a lot of money with a book" thing all over again. do you genuinely not realise how dumb and intellectually lazy that is?

AOC is a horse faced bitch who is only doing this to make Ted Cruz look bad. She is funneling donations for Democrat purposes and isn't helping the people of Texas. If she truly cared, she'd be helping her own country Puerto Rico.

it's not about what she does, it's what she stands for. tcock is a diehard establishment shill. he loves licking corporate boot, and he loves the fact that america is an oligarchy. she is a threat to that corrupt system. that's why he has to attack her.
