youre missing my point. i dont disagree that they have the right to protect their products. BUT they should have realized that iftheyre only locking up products that are aimed at blacks (at least in that one section) then its going to LOOK racist. to avoid that they should have locked up all similar products, even if not aimed at blacks.
but it COULD also be that it WAS racially motivated, if they didnt have any thefts yet but said "blacks are gonna want these and blacks steal, so we should lock these up". that WOULD be racist, and that would be wrong. it all depends on whether they were already experiencing thefts, or anticipating them on a racially motivated basis.
I honestly think there are more questions involved here than you're really considering. If a small "black targeted product" that's high value and easy to steal is not locked up, what's to prevent a white person from stealing it and selling it to their black friends for a quarter the cost? Who ever accused "black people" of being the thieves? If anything, I think the store is doing a service to their black community by keeping the product secured. By preventing the mass theft of said product, they're able to keep it on the shelf to cater to their black community. Given the options are to drastically raise the price of the product or to stop selling them entirely, it seems sweet.
Nobody has said "blacks want these and blacks steal". Nobody has indicated that any special measures are being taken against any group or there are any bad thoughts about a specific group due to race except the article writers themselves. And they lack any form of hard evidence. In fact, the (possibly fabricated) picture above with the mens hair dye shows the opposite. Notice that all of them are the same price? It could be argued that even if the photo was real, then there was mass theft of the "black targeted product" and therefore there should be a corresponding increase to the price. Indeed, the extra labor and security device cost involved to secure them should raise the price as well. Instead, they're identical. Why? Seems to me that even if that pic is real, that store is catering to the black community, not trying to profile them, by insuring they get the same product at the same price and are able to continue providing it at all.
