As a Californian, I'm always irked when Republicans jumped on the state for having "failed liberal policies" when it comes to energy needs. I don't think it's right to pile on Texans for having a system that mostly works for their state. In these scenarios, it's typically the power companies, not the state, that are screwing over consumers. They are either negligent, greedy, incompetent, etc. That doesn't absolve the state of blame, but it's not a partisan problem.

Meh. Rural electrification was a liberal issue to begin with. Texas would be mostly powerless already without liberals meddling where they shouldn't be.

Electricity, another failed liberal policy.

The bottom line is that America has the infrastructure of a third world country in many regards, including its power grid.

the R party only wants help when it’s them. It’s socialism unless it’s them. Then it magically becomes an emergency. Not a mention of socialism anywhere. Been going on with farmers for decades

Eh? I'm all for each of the 14 states that went into states of emergency due to the storm and still struggling to clean up and restore power to their citizenry receiving FEMA backing should they request it. It's really kind of odd that it was Biden who declared the federal state of emergency for Texas, but he did NOT do likewise for most other effected states. Right now, to the best I can find, the backing in Oregon is all state-level.

I'm tempted to think that Biden's decision to declare the state of emergency specific to Texas without addressing the other states was purely political. "See Texas? THIS is why you should go blue, us Dems are here to support you!" Meanwhile, here in blue Oregon, not a peep.

Also note: Texas has no state income tax. But it's citizens ARE still paying federal income tax. They're every bit as deserving of representation as Californians or New Yorkers.

Edit: Went through all the white house statements and briefings, and Biden has declared federal state of emergency in Texas and Alaska. I see nothing regarding the other states impacted. Why is a democrat ignoring the states that voted him in, while providing funding for states that voted against him?

and liberals have been talking about it for longer than I've been paying attention to politics but Republicans always shut down infrastructure spending because it would be the government doing something good, and they make their political points off sabotaging the government.

If Texas gets FEMA for poor planning, then Minnesota should get FEMA to cover the riot damage from this summer.

agreed here. the state vs state rhetoric is tired. blaming California for wildfires etc. is pretty silly. blaming Texas for a once in a what, 200+ year massive snow storm is equally silly. there are tens of millions people of all political persuasions suffering in multiple states right now

How are riots a national disaster? All Minnesota had to do to get full federal support to suppress the riots was ask.

Just like I don't think Oregon should get FEMA support for 10 months of rioting in Portland. Yet I do support Oregon getting FEMA support for it's ongoing struggle to get power reconnected the 150,000 people without.

And as edited in previous post, Texas and Alaska were both declared in Federal States of Emergency by Biden. Why is a Democratic President not helping the Democratic States that voted for him?
