That's chump change for Donald, he gives salary away why he would need a pension? It's reserved for dirt poor bums like obama

He'll need it once legal bills start to pile up

To be fair, you'd also have to calculate that cost against the potential cost of Trump receiving the various post-Presidency lifetime benefits, including the $200K+ pension and $1 million/year travel/security budget.

if impeachment costs under 1m$ then id 100% support it for that reason, hadn't thought of that. also would remove secret service protection?

now you're speaking my language.

there's no competition when someone takes a few seconds to give a real answer instead of "well if u dont think its a big deal idk what to say"

The House has released it's resolution to impeach President Donald Trump. If the impeachment succeeds(as it likely will), he will be the first president in history to be impeached twice. It is unlikely that the Senate convicts him, and conviction is required in order to disqualify him from running again(I believe).

The vast majority of the right-wing will oppose this effort, because they would like to pretend the past 2 months didn't happen. But it did, and there needs to be accountability.

The point, aside from principles, is that if Trump is impeached then he loses the various lifetime privileges of being President. So no pension ($200K+/year for life), travel budget ($1 million+/year if travel is related to role of former Presidency), healthcare, etc.

he probably wouldnt accept those anyway. he should decline them and provide a running tab of how much every other former President/VP/etc. have cost the taxpayers

From a practical standpoint, Trump has been neutered of all power. I believe that most cabinet members are simply going to ignore unlawful orders and he's just going to sulk until he's out of office. Having said that, we didn't think he'd be able to do any damage outside of sabotaging the GA election once the EC voted. Boy were we wrong.

From a principled standpoint, the House HAS to impeach. There's really no other option that they have because if they do nothing, they are condoning it.

i'd love for senate/congress to have their costs made public. im curious what the actual dollar amount this attempt will cost US taxpayers, all to get rid of trump 9 days ahead of schedule.

A trial won't happen. The Senate won't be in session without unanimous consent. The whole point of this is to have precedent so that you can lower the probability of it happening again.

I saw a good analogy yesterday. A man gives his employer two weeks notice but then assaults an employee on the 2nd to last day. Should that employee be fired or should they just "wait it out?"

Republican call for unity is more a call for pity imo

Actions have consequences

With that said, what’s the point because he has days in office anyway. If he had months left I would say sure

The Republicans don't want unity. Most House Republicans were undeterred by the events on Wednesday. This is a classic domestic abuse situation where a husband beats his wife, wants to reconcile, and then gets upset when she says no.

"Accountability for thee, but not for me" should be the Democratic motto. It sounds like a colossal waste of time designed to score political points by the same people who have been celebrating violence for the past 9 months.

It would be good if Trump and his children never again run for political office, but that is already virtually assured.

I'm not convinced of that. Trump is incompetent but his inner-circle made some really smart moves. The RNC is full of Trump loyalists now and many state GOP higher ups are on the Trump train. The party is in crisis.
