Tech giants weren't but every other industry was. We live in a world of oligolopies and it was created by Republican deregulation. Now that One area has made it not convenient they want a special exception to that area

Not necessarily. Any probability game with disparate outcomes trends this way. Our corporate laws are definitely f'd though.

The social media giants function as oligopolies that eschew direct competition and maintain their own spaces within the marketplace.

See Parler. Any new "Twitter" is going to have a lot of people who are unhappy with the status quo. Some of them are going to be nuts. The tech giants use that as an excuse to deplatform, which prevents competition from forming.

This is exactly the sort of situation that conservatives and liberals use to agree on, but "owning Trump" has you guys bending over asking for more.

Google the term "compelling interest" and then use free speech to call in a bomb threat somewhere bogie.

Making someone you aren't arresting for inciting riots stop inciting riots is compelling interest. His and your white privilege is so stronk that you feel he should be able to keep committing the crime after failing to stop after being told to repeatedly and not being arrested when he is obviously guilty. Lin Wood tweeted to behead Pence or some shit too.

It isn't conservative philosophy that is being banned, despite its completely impoverished state right now. No actual thought is under attack. Conservatives tweeting about how they can't tweet. Its idiotic.

Tweets for twits is Trump's only successful govt initiative and he doesn't even have that anymore he fucked that up too. What a complete fuck up.

I will say it a different way.

We should recognize the importance of a diversity of thought, and take steps in both our public and private lives to ensure that it is promoted, supported, and protected.

If the tech oligopolies want to pursue an ideological agenda, they should be regulated. They are simply too important for civic discourse at present.

I mean, I would love to live in a world where leftist YouTubers didn't get immediately demonetized. When you compare the left who advocates for a system other than capitalism and the right, the right is treated with absolute kid gloves on social media. The right has to totally jump the shark by sending p*** to people, literally inciting a riot, or doxxing shooting survivors before they even stop getting recommended.

But I don't see a constitutionally firm way of enforcing what you want, and if you got it you would immediately turn back because it would be an absolute Boon to leftist thought

Cops dragged out disabled people protesting at the capital but let the fascists who have been burning down black churches on their way to DC in.

Never forget this.

Of course it is. And no one cares about Lin Wood. I had no idea who this guy was until a week ago.

People care that censorship is taking place based on selective fact-checking. They care that opinions are being fact-checked. They care that university professors, experts in their fields, are being suspended and fired for wrong-think.

here's the irony

Orwell warned that the government would spy on us (Winston went to the woods to escape the cameras, he didn't realize that there were microphones out there)

But what he couldn't even imagine is that they wouldn't have to. People are willingly using their own money to buy and carry around tracking devices and uploading their pics/vids/thoughts publicly for the government to peruse at their leisure! huge LOL right there

You know why you are dumb?

The only way to get rid of the power the private companies have (and are now using to silence free speech) is to have a government that puts in the correct rules so that those companies can become accountable.

Other than that you have 0 way of slowing down Big tech companies

So you scrubs that qq about too much gov't are saying your free speech is getting taken away by private companies where the governemnt is the only entity with any power to compete and stop these big tech companies

fucking

idiots.

Congress should require that Jack Dorsey provide a mitigation plan, one that includes transparency and oversight over Twitter's moderation and appeal process. If he fails to do so they should take corrective legislative action.

Twitter cannot moderate all posts all of the time. Requiring them to do so would effectively destroy their business. That's no one's preferred outcome, but it should be treated as the nuclear option.

would be too little too late. Twitter and Facebook have already crossed the threshold into problematic territory. No amount of moderation can reign in their status as the primary way information is disseminated throughout the country. It's time to start whack-a-mole-ing these companies when they get too big, just like any other monopoly.
