Well, right now im in southern georgia getting about 30k a year and planning on moving to portland oregon soon, theres a lot of factors. You can get an apartment cheap around here and I budget my food super hard and dont eat out. But there are people that'll waste their paychecks [or welfare lets be real here] on stupid shit and spend the rest of the week blaming everyone but themselves, I know shits gonna get real when I move and that living will be more expensive but im ready for it. Also if you have kids when you're making what im making you are just asking to be poor thats not even in the conversation far as im concerned.

If you're living on less than 50k a year for a household, there's not a lot of opportunity to "just do better with your money". When I was in that income bracket I'd try to save and it would always get wiped out by an unexpected bill. Lord help me if I had kids during that time. I'd hazard a guess that most of the forum makes significantly more than your current income so you should really stop relying on your own success being impressive. This isn't a crazy concept. 50,000$ a year where Thor lives in CA is not even remotely equivalent to where I live.

A million and one different factors play into the "how far $50K/year will get you" gameshow.

50,000 a year - when properly budgeted - provides people near me a comfortable life with a moderate home mortgage (1000-1500 sq foot nice home) and free money to enjoy.

$50000 in Metro CA means you're basically homeless.
