I'm generally against nanny state policies, and prefer personal responsibility over excessive regulation. But there are a couple of exceptions. Not wearing helmets while driving a motorcycle is so damn dangerous that it is one of those exceptions.

how the hell did this confusing topic turn into a rant about nanny state.. oh right look who is doing the posting after the first page

no helmet while riding your moped improperly and endangering pedestrians on sidewalks = rebel with a cause, no need nanny state

but if you don't wear a mask to walk your dog or go on a bike ride well you should be sent to a re-education camp, per the reality-deniers in this thread

The article said nothing about sidewalks. It said he exited an alley - which is a traffic lane for cars between rows of houses and was struck.

the OP mentions riding on sidewalks and so did the linked article, it appears to have been updated

Don't pass laws you're not willing to have the police kill over.

Okay, so he was riding on the sidewalk? It also says they were trying to stop him over a helmet, not riding a bike on the sidewalk. Keep in mind most everywhere considers 49cc and under bikes to not be motorcycles.

I saw that the 1st time you said it. It was... good.

However, the cops didn't kill that guy a car did. There is NO but it happened because... it happened because that guy was an idiot.

yes, which is not permitted per DC law. so no helmet and riding on sidewalks. seemed the cops should have better things to do yeah, but asking someone to knock it off is hardly police ‘brutality’

Code
It is okay to ride mopeds, motorized bicycles, and motorcycles on the street, but not on city sidewalks.

he should have been wearing a mask - then everyone would have left him alone :(

30mph is fast enough to make your brain scrambled and die as in this case...

Yikes. The tone of this article has changed since originally posted. At OP it was about a moped, side walk, and helmet.

Now it’s scooter and helmet. No one wears a fucking helmet on a scooter and a bunch of fat tourists ride on sidewalks. If this is indeed a scooter than I don’t see why he would be stopped unless he was running into people. Those things go like 8 mph and are slow as shit.

A Revel Moped as Originally reported on the other hand, totally difffereny story. They’re big, especially for park view’s narrow ass sidewalks and very dangerous topping at 30mph. Love the lack of fact checking before publication or the changing to seem more SJW by the media.
