Police were dispatched instead of a mobile crisis unit (social worker team to check out these exact things) and they used the tools they had to solve this man's mania that the family was getting him to the hospital for.

Is that the fault of the police or of the dispatcher? Once the police are there, they need to react to whatever happens while protecting their own lives. I'd like to know what constitutes a "mentally ill person in crisis" in this case. Could mean anything. And once he ran at the police with a knife, a crime WAS committed. While it's possible that that wouldn't have happened if a social worker had shown up and not the police, it's also possible that the social worker would have been attacked, and it would be the social worker who is dead.

Police chief commented on this, there is no "mobile crisis unit" that could have been called. Family contacted 911 for emergency services related to an armed man, and the police we're obviously the ones who showed up.
