A recession recovers within 8 months if you dont interfere.

The early 1920 depression was a perfect example. It was a worse drop than the great 1929 depression but the government didnt overspend and regulate.

Most plainly Obama also didn't enforce a lot of unemployment benefit requirements.

ah, right, because there was so much to spend on back then for the 100M americans who had so many different opportunities for gainful employment...

we had what, 49M coal worker and 49M farmers? lol

The Green New Deal would be so great for the economy and I mean how could it not be? It’s got ‘green’ in the name and money is green right? cmon 30 trillion is my walking around money, it’s my fast cash setting at the atm.

My post was about the fiscal irresponsibility of the green new deal, and since your reply has nothing to do with that, it leads me to believe that the green new deal is indefensible.

Bush 41's term ended with a concluded Cold War. Completely understandable as the economy shifts.
Clinton's economy also ended in the dot com bubble bursting.
Bush 43's crash was born in 1913 and encouraged by liberal housing policies.
Obama's recovery was the weakest post-crash recovery in American history, and should have been huge, considering how sharp it was.
The economic catastrophe now has nothing to do with the president.

To add to this, the economic boom of the 90s over which Clinton presided was amplified by two factors which had nothing to do with him:

- reaping the freedom dividend from the end of the cold war
- the largest generation in American history (the boomers) entering their peak earning years

Which law "gutted unions?" When?
Which programs?

only thing i know of it Scott Walker removing collective bargaining rights of Wisconsin teachers.

unions ran unchecked in many industries such as the UAW which overpriced itself and jobs were outsourced.

...which doesn't begin to explain the divergence in 1970.

no not at all, i have no clue what thor is on about.

best guess, as democrats like to imply unions are a democratic possession (some truth given how many union members were democratic voters historically) the "attack on unions" is just a reflexive "republicans ruin everything we worked for" narrative. even tho unions today still have a massive amount of power and influence.
