Michelle has a pretty good speech and managed to avoid direct antagonization of Trump while obviously doing it indirectly, and didn't make any obvious missteps. One of the advantages of a scripted, pre-recorded speech that I'd normally chalk up as cheating since there's no way you should be able to screw up a staged clip, but the rest of the DNC proved that yes, you can absolutely screw up prerecorded staged clips.

As we've been explaining in this thread repeatedly, the DNC is completely fucking up who they are supposed to be appealing to. If they're trying some kind of strategy here, its moronic. They devoted almost all their messaging to Black Lives Matter, a losing cultural issue that only serves to energize their base rather than win back the white vote. Trump is going to spend his convention railing against Democrats letting cities burn down, Democrats are endorsing the folks who burned down cities. Trump could just shut up and play a few minute clip of John Thompson screaming abuse at children the other day and autowin.

Everything about the overarching democratic strategy- quashing the progressives and taking the most aggressively moderate, centrist ticket of Biden/Harris, and avoiding public appearances for Biden- that's all exactly what they need to be doing, and their strategy seems like a winning one. Its their execution and tactics where they are fucking up bigly. Making George Floyd into a saint and vaguely referencing reparations and defunding police? Absolutely toxic issues that Biden needs to steer far, far away from, and instead they dragged it to the front.

Like I said, I didn't watch most of it, only clips and reactions on Twitter. My guess is the main takeaways that the media runs with and normal voters adsorb is much different than what the Trump cult perceived. That's the group that matters of course, not Trump supporting political junkies.

Also, the narrative that the party isn't trying to appeal to progressives seems like one of those silly takes you only hear on Twitter. Harris has one of the most progressive voting records in the Senate, Biden has moved left and has sought input from Bernie and others. This time Bernie actually got on board early and is doing his part in bringing his voters along. Donald Trump's disastrous presidency has united the Democratic party.

Harris isn’t a progressive nor does she appeal to progressives Bernie or Warren would of been the play to signal to progressives that their demands will be taken seriously. She’s a nod to the establishment democrats.

I understand the cult wishes it were true that Kamala was a centrist Democrat... but facts matter here. Look up any analysis of her voting record in the Senate... just because she flip flopped on whether private insurance had to be abolished, or just because she wasn't a hippie Commie as California AG, doesn't suddenly erase her Senate record and professed stances. It's also hilarious to see how many different arguments are used against Kamala... depending on who in the cult is speaking, she's either a radical socialist or a member of the Washington establishment.

Sure, Warren and especially Bernie would appeal more to progressives, but the first rule of picking VPs is do no harm. Biden picked a progressive who doesn't want to ban fracking and eliminate private health insurance.

Bernie got on board quicker and more enthusiastically this time.

Edit - Actually Kamala has come out in favor of banning fracking before. Lol. I was wrong on that but I suppose it helps my argument that she's progressive.

Trump would have loved for Biden to choose a progressive. It would of made his life 1000% easier and the attacks much more potent. Trump's attacks could of been much more on point, now his campaign is kind of lost and is still spinning as Kamala being a radical leftist even though she's the typical neocon democrat establishment. Instead he has to square off against a centrist ticket who on paper at least are distancing themselves from the fringe far left. Goom is right though on them fumbling the message. BLM/anti-police is not a winning strategy to carry largely white swing states.
