I really wouldnt call an alliance that includes Saudi-Arabia and Egypt "progressive Islam". Even when it comes to Dubai... yes, Dubai is probably the most progressive muslim country in the ME, but it should still be kept in mind that they are about as far to the right of Alabama Republicans as Alabama Republicans are to the right of California Democrats. Social norms and ideology in this region of the world operate on a totally different scale than those in the West.

Otherwise, I basically agree with your view on the issue. The trend of rapproachment between Israel and the Gulf monarchies is a long-term one that had already been going on for quite some time. I really dont think that the influence by the Trump administration was the factor that got these peace talks over the hump. Trump and his admin officials seemingly played some positive role, and he deserves credit and praise for it, but his impact is most definitely blown out of proportion.

Egypt and the Saudis are progressive by comparison to Iran. Progressive Islam =/= progressive. Just as a progressive in the 1800s who wanted blacks to not be owned by white isn't progressive in the modern context. Context matters

Trump here is the punter on a super bowl champ team. He's there. He played a role. But he will pop the most champagne and brag the most too.

using your analogy President Trump is the punter who pins the opponent behind their own 10 yard line 4-5 times in the Super Bowl

Biden is Gary Anderson the kicker who misses chip shots the game before the SB then claims credit for the aforementioned punts that happened in a game he’s not even in

More like this. Without the 20 sacks a game or the ability to play.

I don't know what heavy means. What i know is them mentioning him by name probably happened for a reason and i'll take their word for it. I don't need 4 D contorted views of reality to try to separate someone i don't like from positives in this world.

It doesn't require any contorted views if you've been paying attention over the past 4 years. Donald Trump is a shit tier negotiator and he is incapable of deeply understanding ideas. I can all but guarantee that he wasn't the one greasing the wheels on this and Kushner might have played a minor role but likely wasn't instrumental either.

Again, it just requires you actually looking at their track record in the White House.

You can guarantee something you know nothing about based on your feelings about a person. ok. This is why i talk shit about you being a scientist.

Curious, what state department appointment do you hold to be making such guarantees? Like give me something tangible for me to not believe diplomats that are thanking him by name and reporters covering this. For example:

The negotiations over the last six weeks were conducted through Kushner and closely held in the White House, with only a limited number of officials aware. Meetings and Thursday’s phone call were either omitted from schedules or listed with obscure language.

You talk shit on me about science because you know next to nothing about science.

If you look at the rest of that persons tweets it follows what icemage and snipa have been saying, that this was all but guaranteed due to shifting dynamics in the middle east

Doesnt really matter. It could come out they actively opposed the deal and you would still be claiming Trump was playing 8d rubiks cube chess to make it happen

He literally says the meetings were held through Kushner at the White House. The guys writes for NY Times & MSNBC. Are you saying a liberal reporter is lying about that or are you really this dense? Like i said you can't even define what significant would be in a such a case and are just throwing a temper tantrum because god forbid anything related to what trump does or is a part of may be good.

> Yep! Trump or whoever maybe even opposed the deal! but they're thanking him for it and his son and law worked at the white house brokering it for 6 months. cognitive dissonance through the roof.

he's actually upset that this happened. just like he was upset when our military took out several Iranian terrorists and it didn't start WWIII. plenty of privileged lefties hold this position, mainly because they hate America even more than our adversaries do.
