Calling bullshit on this. He specifically used the military to disperse a peaceful protest so he could get a photo-op. It was a very fascistic display and it was on our capital's doorstep. Your point here is "we're not at China yet", but the thread title is "are we devolving into China", and I'd say our treatment of protesters is absolutely a point in favor of us becoming more like China.
The President wanted to make a statement at a Church and the area needed to be secure. In the end, it turned out to be a poor political move that was covered extensively by a free media and proved to be to entirely to his detriment.
The president cannot be in a thousand locations at once, so it's more than a stretch to compare his visit to a Church to fascists eliminating dissent. Protests raged in Washington DC for weeks, and the police weren't out there mass arresting dissenters and punting them off to prison camps. If the riots in the last few months have taught us anything, it's that America is fundamentally a free country, and the death toll (still racking up) stands as testament to that in cities across the nation.
