I mean... She might just love her work and want to die in office.

It's her life. Why assume she's stuck when she's given no indication she wants out?

There's also this. Her history is one of a work horse, doing things like working, taking care of kids, and being in law school simultaneous.

This is the most likely answer. She has the most prestigious position in the entire field of law. Until she can no longer execute her duties to the best of her abilities, why would she quit if she enjoys it? The same applies to Clarence Thomas IMO.

While certainly possible I've always thought people who never want to retire are insane.

My ADHD is so bad if I ever retire I'll go insane.

My wife can already hardly stand me since I get bored with 40 hours a week.

yeah I get the sentiment about not retiring as I enjoy working but assuming current trajectory i’ll retire from my day to day and get involved with projects as ‘work’ to keep myself busy. I already do it now with covid freeing up a lot of time (no more commute + flexibility to get work done at any hour of the day. heck if im having a restless night ill knock out some stuff and then zonk)

She might not want out of her office, but still feel an obligation to make sure that the balance of the SCOTUS doesnt shift to the right. I have a hard time believing that she just issued rulings for her own sake all those years and would be unphased if a court with a conservative majority repeals her life work after she leaves. I would assume that she feels obligated to "liberal jurisprudence" and considers it a greater cause than her self-interest.
