It's because the United States has had an atrocious response to Covid-19, and people don't want to admit it. To do so would make Trump look bad, which is a big no-no in the minds of Trump supporters.
We also have a culture here in the United States where we just genuinely don't care about the health of other people. So long as I'm okay and the people I care about in life are okay, then it doesn't matter how many new cases we have or how many new deaths we have. In no other country is the existence of the virus debated, people thinking that masks will lead to CO2 poisoning and is an infringement on rights, and in nowhere else do they prioritize non-essential services like barbers, restaurants, beaches, etc. over human life like we do. At least, certainly not to the extent present here.
