^ This is great advice if you can find work within rural areas. In my state, I've had about 50% cost of living reduction from moving rural, and income only dropped ~15% with rural market rates. On the flip side, this has been some of the hardest advice for me personally to follow when I moved away from the 'ghetto'. While some of the families there are finically poor, they are rich in spirit, tradition, etc. Like a strange guilt trip thing that happens.

This is the path i took, i went into mining until i owned my first apartment, then i took a security job with flexible hours while i got my business and management goals out of the way, then i took an executive role with bp, i invested in bitcoin early and my real estate investments saw great returns, i worked REALLY had for 4 years, slack as for 8 years and then constantly on call for 3 years and retired last year at 34.
I grew up in the worst area in the worst town in my country.

Parents brought me here when i was 10 years old, they never made more than 50k combined. Pretty much all of my relatives came here with just the clothes on their back and nothing else and none of them live in poverty, in fact many have their own businesses, pretty much all live in the burbs, have 3 cars, etc.

Even my aunt who's a single mom raised 3 kids and is doing fine, also living in the suburbs.

It's about frame of mind honestly. In this country the vast majority of people can stay out of poverty if they really try. Unless you're disabled you can easily pull in 30 grand on the low end.

I was born in poverty. Father didn't work, had a drill bit broke in his back and he was involved with pain management his whole life, waiting for workmens comp settlement. Mom worked two jobs most of my life, delivery or dock work shipping and receiving. She worked at the kenner factory when i was a kid and i was able to have some of the star wars figures they made that she was able to sneak out. We sometimes wouldn't have toilet paper and wiped our ass with the community paper/door store. We hunted and fished and we ate a lot of what we caught...i can shoot, skin, fry a squirrel, and make a nice gravy out of the grease. Nobody in my family had ever been to college. I don't know any males in my family to have achieved an age older than 60. My parents died young, when i was in my early 20s.

I'm also insanely privileged. I am physically able, in my 40s i have no chronic health conditions and require no medications...I'm bright but not smart enough to make it hard to fit in. I'm attractive, have a big dick, mental health is pretty good though I'm half crazy...have a good work ethic.

Most of the people i grew up with died or were incarcerated. I can name about 30 people that i went to grade school with that have died from heroin addiction looking back. I had my first gun pointed at me in school in 7th grade. I was expelled in 10th grade, and i seen a girl stab another girl in school that year, and remember hearing the hissing coming out of her torso. Three of my close friends were killed by the police soon after graduation.

I seen the writing on the wall and enlisted in the US Army which saved my life. I have every advantage though...even born on severe poverty i have my good health, warm personality, and a good head on my shoulders...and I'm a white guy so I'm one of America's special people.

Oh Duff, you mentioned drugs. Every time i have been in any real trouble it has been due to the prohibition of marijuana. Arrests, article 15s in the army, missed job opportunities.

Parents are everything. Parent's level of education is the number one determinant of success.

I try my best to be a good dad.

Damn man, that's the secret.

You can't talk about poverty unless you've the experience.

You are describing what it is like to fly as a bird.

I'm sure you can't talk meaningfully about racism without experiencing it either.

Why don't you tell us how to handle our menses? Lol

Or how you deal with the disparaging voices you hear due to schizophrenia?

Describe how Hellen Keller experienced masterbation?

Its real easy to slam dunk, just jump into the air and put the ball in the hoop with your hands.

Been in this discussion with you before, I already told you I picked fruit myself, slogging 70+ hours a week in the orchard.

NN all your silly BS cuz it's all plain and simple really.

BTW what I forgot to say in my first post in this thread is that by the time people look and act like fucking gang members with tattoos and have a criminal record that reads like a laundry list, it's all over for them. (Or have turned completely mad because of substance abuse)

There's no road back but this has everything to do with making bad choices in the first place, not with poverty.

the idea that someone can have grades too bad to get into college has always puzzled me. i knew kids in high schools with like a 2.4 GPA that got into 4 year state schools no problem. you will get wait listed, but will get in eventually.

if you have a sub 2 GPA dont go to college, you're wasting money on an education you're not qualified to receive. the horse is out of the barn at that point, someone needed to get to you much earlier.

most of the issues we have in inner cities stem from politicians looking to give people fish, instead of teaching them to use a pole. it's a dependence strategy that keeps them coming back.

3-4 = college
2-3 = vocational school

indeed. which is why i dont get why anyone with a sub 2 GPA would want to go to college anyways, its a massive uphill struggle for their IQ level.

and honestly in wisconsin at least its more like:

3.5-4 = UW madison, Marquette, other main state schools, or MSOE
2.25-3.49 = UW state school system
1.5-2.24 = tech school
0-1.5 = work at a gas station but not kwik trip, they pay too much

I'm holding firm to my numbers. There may be a slight shift for some AAs (which would fall into vocational imo) such as nursing. CLAs become AA, not BA, but with MA options after. Soft science stays BS, not AA.

If you want to move up a tier after HS, you can take 2 years of CC to re-tier.

I fundamentally believe that college is over-saturated and should be reserved for the more able. If you can't swing a 3.0 in high school...

Actually, CLA would go AA->BA->MS->PhD. So 2+2+2+2. Able to start with lower GPA, but requires 3+ to continue to next tier, as all educational options would.

yup its just a scam perpetrated by banks and colleges. they sold college as the only option and swindled millions of kids into taking out massive loans with a low chance to graduate, let alone find a job in their major.

the number of underemployed bachelors people working jobs they could have gotten with a 1 year certificate is crazy.

That drove up the cost for people actually wanting to get value out of college and pursue a career. Went to a state college myself with ABET EE/CE programs at half the cost of the big U. Most of the peers there were more focused on parties though (outside of 2+ years in science/engineering students). Also, had to pay an 'athletic fee', although that did not give me access to use the athletic facilities and gym, just to watch D2 football get wreckt. Or worse was 'campus cash' that could only be used on-campus for assets priced 2x MSRP.
