Endless cup of black coffee at a regular diner, be it private or a chain like Dennys is like $1.25, and the coffee tastes better. That's not 1 cup. That's endless refills. And assuming you aren't being rowdy and it's not a holiday (where they're going to be jam-packed) you can stay pretty much all day. And many diners now have free internet as well.

You want to compare your "roastery" to starbucks but that's simply bullshit, let's compare like with like. When all you're looking for is a plain cup of black coffee, a table to sit at, and a bit to snack on, starbucks is nothing but a shitty, overly noisy, and super expensive diner.

starbucks is the Apple of food service. u dont buy the product for its worth in technology and gadgets, you buy it for the label. same with starbucks. and in the same way Apple integrated early on with all providers Starbucks spread into previously regional territories and put down roots. i hate starbucks with a passion, same with apple. overpriced trendy products not worth half the ticket price.

Absolutely wrong. Even at the whole-in-the-wall casino diner out here it is 2 dollars for black coffee and that's a shit hold diner attached to a ratty old casino. At any chain place like you've described it'll be $2.99 every time.

But, I'd like to to mention this whole splitting hairs thing is really detracting from the point.

This is true but I don't know about the comparison. For example, Apple is probably considerably more expensive than the next cheapest item of the same kind whereas Starbucks really isn't a Hell of a lot more expensive versus its competitors.

I won't dispute Starbucks marketing strategy, which is pretty much how you stated it. I opened this thread mentioning Starbucks observes the potential of a third place in society and uses it in its marketing strategies, along with the fact that historically it was marketed as a premium product and made to appear synonymous with quality and fashion.

Who said anything about Casinos? You're bringing odd things into the mix. What next?

You talked about the price of a single cup of black coffee at Starbucks. I brought up diners and how they provide ENDLESS COFFEE for one cost. Depending on the diner, it can range from $1.25 (I remember when it was $0.25) up to $3. But it's still an endless cup. These establishments now mostly provide free internet. They provide not only tables but booths where you can conduct your business. And there's real food available if you get hungry, not just highly overpriced (nuts and fruit bits vs $10) comfort food but REAL food for your consumption.

Starbucks is 100% shit. "Coffee Shops" in general are mostly shit. Their entire business model revolves around turning the Dutch Bros form of coffee, where you drive (or walk) up to a stand, they make an espresso-based drink that's gonna cost $4-$6 depending on how many shots are in your mocha, etc. and turn it into a sit down experience. The problem is that Starbucks has the worst tasting coffee of anyone. McDonalds is legitimately better, and their coffee is so garbage, even their own employees won't drink it.

The "coffee service" business in the US originated not with cafes, but with bookstores. Long before Starbucks even existed, you had bookstores that had comfy couches and chairs to read in where you could buy coffee and muffins, and read in a nice, quiet environment where your immediate concerns were pushed off to the side and your need for a good book was paramount. The coffee, muffins, danishes, and other such, were simply a way to improve your experience. The starbucks or other "cafes" of today? Revolve around internet, video poker, and branding.

If you want to talk about an actual roaster, they live on the quality of their roast. That's not Starbucks. Their roasts are 99% shit and we all know it. If you want to talk about a diner, it's about atmosphere and food, both of which are shit at a starbucks, where it's loud, yuppy, overpriced, and uninviting. If you want to talk about a casino, it's about the gambling, where you can still smoke, drink, gamble, and do whatever the fuck ever with nobody saying shit sideways. If you want to talk about "cafes" then you're talking primarily video poker, deli style foods (sandwiches, fruit stuff, etc.) tobacco sales that're cheaper than all the normal retail stores (but not usage inside), and not much else. Starbucks? Bad, overpriced coffee, small portions of cheap comfort foods for 10x the cost, an overly loud and rather uncomfortable cafeteria-style atmosphere where you don't want to be there for longer than it takes to get your drink.

Don't try to tell me about Casinos. Don't try to tell me about Diners. Not while talking about Starbucks. Nobody, including you, buys into your bullshit.

I haven’t seen such a simple point/topic go so highly above someone’s head. Kudos to you.

Its pretty commonplace with him. He will also act like you violent disagree when you are stating the same things as him slightly different. He over explains his viewpoint to people who aren't really reading his prolix posts and cannot at all see things in any other perspective but his own. Very spectrumy.

I feel like his approach is the equivalent to debating the color of the bus Rosa Parks sat on.

Don't forget that if you want anything beyond a regular coffee that tastes like dish water, you're paying enormous amounts.
€5,50 for a coffee with some mocha and chocolate? €7,00 for a goddamn cookie?

I'm sorry, but no. If you say that Starbucks isn't terribly overpriced, you're simply cherry picking the one or two products that are only mildly expensive.
