Absolutely wrong. Even at the whole-in-the-wall casino diner out here it is 2 dollars for black coffee and that's a shit hold diner attached to a ratty old casino. At any chain place like you've described it'll be $2.99 every time.
But, I'd like to to mention this whole splitting hairs thing is really detracting from the point.
Who said anything about Casinos? You're bringing odd things into the mix. What next?
You talked about the price of a single cup of black coffee at Starbucks. I brought up diners and how they provide ENDLESS COFFEE for one cost. Depending on the diner, it can range from $1.25 (I remember when it was $0.25) up to $3. But it's still an endless cup. These establishments now mostly provide free internet. They provide not only tables but booths where you can conduct your business. And there's real food available if you get hungry, not just highly overpriced (nuts and fruit bits vs $10) comfort food but REAL food for your consumption.
Starbucks is 100% shit. "Coffee Shops" in general are mostly shit. Their entire business model revolves around turning the Dutch Bros form of coffee, where you drive (or walk) up to a stand, they make an espresso-based drink that's gonna cost $4-$6 depending on how many shots are in your mocha, etc. and turn it into a sit down experience. The problem is that Starbucks has the worst tasting coffee of anyone. McDonalds is legitimately better, and their coffee is so garbage, even their own employees won't drink it.
The "coffee service" business in the US originated not with cafes, but with bookstores. Long before Starbucks even existed, you had bookstores that had comfy couches and chairs to read in where you could buy coffee and muffins, and read in a nice, quiet environment where your immediate concerns were pushed off to the side and your need for a good book was paramount. The coffee, muffins, danishes, and other such, were simply a way to improve your experience. The starbucks or other "cafes" of today? Revolve around internet, video poker, and branding.
If you want to talk about an actual roaster, they live on the quality of their roast. That's not Starbucks. Their roasts are 99% shit and we all know it. If you want to talk about a diner, it's about atmosphere and food, both of which are shit at a starbucks, where it's loud, yuppy, overpriced, and uninviting. If you want to talk about a casino, it's about the gambling, where you can still smoke, drink, gamble, and do whatever the fuck ever with nobody saying shit sideways. If you want to talk about "cafes" then you're talking primarily video poker, deli style foods (sandwiches, fruit stuff, etc.) tobacco sales that're cheaper than all the normal retail stores (but not usage inside), and not much else. Starbucks? Bad, overpriced coffee, small portions of cheap comfort foods for 10x the cost, an overly loud and rather uncomfortable cafeteria-style atmosphere where you don't want to be there for longer than it takes to get your drink.
Don't try to tell me about Casinos. Don't try to tell me about Diners. Not while talking about Starbucks. Nobody, including you, buys into your bullshit.
