Sales is something I am confident I will never be able to do successfully.

Depends, if you have some expertise (like it's not -pure- sales, which is a terrible job reducing life expectancy) you can simply give personalized advices ..

It appears your mixing sales and consulting together.

They go hand and hand, but are not the same.

It's not.

You gave it an all encompassing meaning. Also, people are successful in sales roles are typically full of expertise. They're still "pure sales" but they know their product/service inside and out. .

Generally, all sales professionals give "personalized advice". You seemed to be describing a consult role.

There's many vendors who are successful and get some very decent amounts of money with the simple expertise of -sales- itself, which does not require any deep technical or empirical knowledge, the fight being on the competitive ground of ass sucking, actor-like, appearance, and few psychology. These brave guys are the best cannon fodder.

/e I would like to greet them and pay tribute to them on this occasion

I stay at my job because I love the environment and the work itself is very engaging (Technical Business analyst)

Recently I moved to a new team where the sr manager is a prima donna 50 year old who is incappable of not showing favouritism and spewing passive aggressive comments putting down her own team.

And also knowing that my Bank is known to pay less, I have started and likely will follow through with changing positions in the company or even going to a new Bank.

i stay at my job because they give me the freedom to do almost literally whatever i want. and they pay me well for it. and then there's that whole contract thing that im under for a few more years, but i could easily buy my way out of it if push came to shove.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

"Above Average" sales reps are required to have a high degree of expertise to sell their product/service. That includes "deep technical or empirical knowledge". This is how you convince and prove a prospective new customer that you are infact, an expert in this particular service, product, or industry. People are VERY hesitant to buy from strangers, that's why sales reps are paid they way they are. Sales isn't luck.

Do you have an experience in sales? I'm curious as to where your opinion was formed.
