However, I am a trained scientist with publications and I can tell you that this paper has dozens of giant red flags and has not been peer reviewed which means it isn't even up for consideration by people looking to do real work in the field.

A few things to bear in mind is that we had collective generations of Americans go absolutely ape shit over desegregation, gay rights, rock music, dungeons and dragons, etc. Millenials are honestly just used to more differing opinions due to the greater ease of access to information.
