never once listened to the ingame sound after the first clear of the game, which we did in one go opening night. then ran torment 1 act 1 runs for a few months lol.

I think i lasted about 6 months playing the game. I was 100% blinded by nostalgia. The game was just abysmal.

I actually gave my CD key to a friend who was botting. He got banned a few weeks later and i haven't played since. That was fall of 12'

The only thing I recall is how hard the jump was from inferno act 1 to Act 2.

I couldn't get out of the opening stage for the longest time. The fucking wasps that shot other wasps would one shot my witch doctor.

oh yeah act 2 was stupid hard compared to like the graveyard areas of A1. way more open maps and shitty ranged chars all over.

goldfind barb was really fun, much nicer than D2 since u didnt have to click piles.

then fast forward and i'm running a barb build that u just sprint and tornados kill shit and im so bored i cant even stand it. 3-4 defensive skills and sprint lol. boring af game.

I remember the fury nado baba. I actually made that specific character so my friend could bot lmao. I guess it was the easiest to program and set up.

I played it manually for a bit and once i got the hang of it and optimized my gear you could literally whirlwind indefinitely.

I made a barb, witch doctor and a demon hunter. Never did Monk or wizard or the paladin thing.

Ya ww barb was the most D2 like character i thought. the others were pretty comical takes on a d2 character with flash graphics and new mechanics. witch doctor was a lot of fun. the worst part about D3 is they hit some high notes, but the low notes were so bad it just wasn't playable.

The witch docter was the only original style character, IMO. The rest were just reskin's of old toons - aside from maybe Monk, but he always felt like a zealdin type toon.

If i remember right, WD was terribly underpowered at launch. Skills didn't work right, pets couldn't tank shit. No real AoE Damage, but good single target abilities.

Last bit of "nostalgia"...... I remember buying a magical 2 handed sword with high damage because of the stupid interaction between weapon dmg and skills. I was making giant fire bats with my powerful lightning enchanted 2 handed sword and i thought.... This is fucking stupid.

I logged off for about a week.

WD had only one viable build for farming. group up mobs then use the one decent AOE skill they had, the thing that made spirit smoke looking bears run at the mobs. but it was boring tbh and super glass cannon, and you'd get stuck with no mana and have to dance while it regened.

i tried a full summons WD but it couldnt clear any decent content.

I played D3 a little bit every once in a while and, I've seen a lot of comments like you guys and it reinforces my belief that you just can't fuck up your launch period even as a "Game as a Service" type of game. Big Companies thought it'd be possible to release not-yet ready games or subpar games that'll just patched up in the future but every time they get burned. It's like the EA and al. of this world never learn. Even when they say they'll change their approach, literally give them 1 year and the next wave of releases will feature the same issues because the pipeline and studio culture is just that entrenched.

People rarely give second chances. I think only Destiny and Warframe and Rainbow Six Siege were ever able to re-acquire a substantial fanbase after a not so good early reception. And in all their cases, there were MASSIVE changes that probably took so much crunch time during a period of development you wouldn't think would be present.
