Except this is a misnomer. He didn't give the orders at la Cabana. He wasn't involved in the trials at all. Nor was la Cabana butchery. The people who were executed were those government officials who were found guilty of torture, rape and murder.

Simple google search - From a man of faith.

http://www.independent.org/news/article.asp?id=1535

Javier Arzuaga, the Basque chaplain who gave comfort to those sentenced to die and personally witnessed dozens of executions, spoke to me recently from his home in Puerto Rico. A former Catholic priest, now seventy-five, who describes himself as “closer to Leonardo Boff and Liberation Theology than to the former Cardinal Ratzinger,” he recalls that

there were about eight hundred prisoners in a space fit for no more than three hundred: former Batista military and police personnel, some journalists, a few businessmen and merchants. The revolutionary tribunal was made of militiamen. Che Guevara presided over the appellate court. He never overturned a sentence. I would visit those on death row at the galera de la muerte. A rumor went around that I hypnotized prisoners because many remained calm, so Che ordered that I be present at the executions. After I left in May, they executed many more, but I personally witnessed fifty-five executions. There was an American, Herman Marks, apparently a former convict. We called him “the butcher” because he enjoyed giving the order to shoot. I pleaded many times with Che on behalf of prisoners. I remember especially the case of Ariel Lima, a young boy. Che did not budge.

This man is no idol and there is no misnomer.

He might look cool on your new tee shirt, but he was a stain on human history. Just another shining example of ideology that doesn't work, but captivates the minds of the weak.

He is warmly referred to as the Butcher of La Cabaña. He was known for his affinity for giving the order to shoot.

This man is no idol.

You're daft if you think he didn't have say in the matter.

Again, you don't get a nickname like that for enriching the neighborhood.

American/CIA militarism and meddling created people like Che. There were people who weren't as marxist as Che/Fidel's brother and I've read and watched some documentaries that Fidel mostly was influenced by his brother and Che with Marxist ideology and Fidel was mostly just a man like many other Cubans who was aiming for a fully free Cuba from America influence and autocratic leaders and people who take power usually become corrupted by it and he became the very thing he was against.

It's not a fully black/white topic. Latin America is very dark history. The colonialism and then the 18th-20th century with foreign governments trying to prevent revolutions and even democratic elections because of fear of marxists or communists taking power.

But that doesn't excuse people like Che or the Castro's and other revolutionaries but I'd say it's hard to argue the US didn't have a hand in creating people like them in the first place.

You aren't important. That's not something that should concern you in the slightest.

Che is an important figure in recent human history. In the same breathe as Mao, Hitler, Stalin, etc.

Yet at the same time, he's in the same breath as Lenin, Trotsky, Nat Turner, Spartacus and Gandhi.
