My statements are not in conflict, and the reason you cant see that is because you take an adversarial approach instead of a collaborative. That's how I know you dont grasp what you are talking about. The methods you are talking about are not debate style arguments the way you think they are. Argumentation can be collaborative and thats the style you should seek to have both in and outside of the classroom.

Nobody said it had to be adversarial. You are the only one who thought that way.

No offense, but you literally just agreed to what I said earlier with this post. You are saying I don't grasp what you are saying because you don't want to admit to yourself that I was right and you were wrong.

Considering you specifically responded to my claim that learning doesn't have to be adversarial with "that's silly if you think this is true"..... I'd say my assessment of your thoughts on the subject were perfectly reasonable.

I never said you don't grasp what I was saying, I said you don't grasp the concepts you are attempting to use to support your own position.

Learning isnt about countering or arguing. Learning isnt adversarial. You are taking a very toxic approach to learning and I genuinely hope you dont try to pass that to your students.

You are very silly if you think this is true. Of course that isn't the only part to learning, but it is definitely what we call a HLTP, or a high leverage teaching practice. Go ahead and spout your bullshit while there's thousands of teachers/professors who are more knowledgeable in this field than you say it is one of the best ways to learn.

You called it adversarial and toxic, and that is what I was calling silly. When I said it is a HLTP, I was talking about what I said earlier. Never did I state myself that it had to be adversarial, you were the one that brought that point in. The fact that you can't dissociate what you said with what I said is kind of an issue.

Yes, your approach to learning is adversarial and toxic.

The HLTP you are referencing shouldn't be used in a way to create an adversarial environment. Debate and discussion are effective learning strategies, but they shouldn't be implemented the way you described them because that isn't creating an effective environment for learning.

In what way do you think I framed this that makes it adversarial? I never gave a situation. I simply said that it is an effective tool to understanding your opponents position, and through that making you understand both your and their arguments more thoroughly. I would like you to point out where I said it had to be adversarial?

You can't learn without discussing opposing views, and you can't function in a competitive or modern society without being able to cope with those who have drastically different viewpoints than you.

So as a person who is focused on education, safe spaces are actually a step back in advancing society.

Sure you can. Its called listening.

Let us make a clear distinction here. Earlier I said conversation, debate, and arguing can help you understand things. You even later went to say that collaborative debate or discussion can do this. But earlier you refuted what I said (which you said later, by the way) by saying that listening is enough.

No, listening and reading only puts the other side in your perspective. The only way you can really think through the other side is through conversation, debate, or argument. While you are thinking of ways to counter what they are saying you will have to attempt to think of things from their perspective to understand their position so you can calculate how to counter it.

If you think listening and reading isn't a way to learn about the other side, that's a toxic attitude. (You explicitly started this argument on the basis that you can't learn by listening)

If you think you can only think through the other side by debating and arguing, that's adversarial.

If you think discussions have to include thinking of ways to counter what the other person is saying, that's adversarial.

It's pretty clear in the way you describe the technique and the way you conduct yourself on the forum. The only "good" part is where you say you have to attempt to think of things from their perspective, but to be honest I've literally never seen you make that attempt. You do not have a healthy attitude towards learning and it holds you back from understanding more complex ideas than you currently hold.

Lol, you are such a snowflake and hypocrite. Look at you fabricating shit just so you can say that I am wrong and that you are right.

Let us frame the context here. The whole point of this topic is to discuss safe spaces. Listening isn't even something that comes into that context, unless you are saying just listening is enough as an argument to promote safe spaces. Safe spaces are literally restrictive to oppositional positions, so in the context of what I said you aren't even listening to opposing positions because you are in a safe space that only presents what you are comfortable with.

You also aren't doing collaborative debating or discussion about other positions while in a safe space, either.

You really need to understand that you are contradicting yourself here. At best you can take what I said and construe it into something that is a bit 'toxic', but at best you can point out that you refuted yourself several times.

Also, we are talking about learning here. Not going to a psychiatrist or social worker so they can listen to you and help you cope with whatever issue you are having.

My god you're bad at staying on topic. How do I always forget what a poor communicator you are?
