they're not bad, they're inconsequential.
at least from the American perspective. We get very little news about them, and I think it's safe to say it's rather boring politically there compared to their neighbors. Sure there was an altright wave spearheaded, but it didn't seem very effective against Macron.
Germany we get a wide range of news from, the UK we obviously get the most Euro-centric news from. Sweden ironically we get a lot of news from based on their post modernism approach to equality of outcome. Spain we hear some news from, although i'd say it's comparable to France in volume. Rest of EU rather little info on.
When I compare this to how informed most Europeans are on our news, like even the tiny details, it's striking. I think in one sense it's partially because you're more focused on us because it's 30 countries looking at 1. The same way 30 students all remember a teacher's name but the teacher can forget individual students. And in another sense the US comparatively has a LOT going on. Even if you combine all of the EU the US still likely outweighs it in terms of newsworthy events. That combination is only for demonstration, in reality EU countries still have journalism barriers based on language. Whereas in the US it's English language standard.
It's true that Germany, the UK and Sweden are better topics for cross continental news towards the US in the past 10 years. But imo that's within the meta of our current time. My perspective right here is that, both Germany and France are covered about as much. And the UK a bit more right now, but that's expected due to Brexit.. I do kinda like the 30 / 1 example. When it comes for me adding US news, it's fairly logical to do so: large ally, much controversy, many movements from within and geopolitical forces at play, not rivaled by individual European countries, while all presented in a language I understand without subtitles or translations, (easier to follow than Chinese news, or even French).. Interestingly, we are actually getting more news about the US in msm than about the EU as a whole. The EU being together as a market, but not having enough mandate to do much geopolitically is probably a cause of that. But then again, I might just pick US topics up a bit more, just like other posters around here, since 80%+ are American topics.
