there can be made a case that the allegations, if true, would not necessarily disqualify him if he had been honest and remorseful about it from the beginning.
having committed sexual assault and blatantly lying about it during the senate hearings must without question disqualify him - even in the eyes of those who would be willing to forgive the sexual assault itself, on the grounds of "young/drunk/didnt consummate/has lived a wholesome life since then".
