A world without borders should be the long, long, long term goal, otherwise we will never leave this rock and our species is sentenced to die sooner than it should. Abolishing all borders today would probably ironically cause the opposite effect and bring our species to an end quickly ^^
The reason the globalists and elitist argue for open borders is because it would annihilate the middle class and funnel wealth to the top at an exponential rate. Imagine hundreds of millions pouring in from places where they are used to make 10 dollars a week to places like the North Americas, Europe, etc. You vastly dilute the labor force. Instead of paying people decent wages you have thousands of candidates willing to do the work for less and less because there's so much competition for fewer jobs.
edit: the end result doesn't somehow make the third world better but instead it makes the majority of the populace in the first world (where much of the wealth is already concentrated poorer, at least for the 99%) Instead of having a middle class every one will just be lower class and maybe middle-lower class.
This has been gradually happening for a while now, immigration and open borders is one of the MO's but there's others like TPP and other such initiatives.
