I agree; said gun classes should be mandatory in every high school.

This isn't about them learning about firearms, however, this is about the principal trying to stifle future gun ownership rates.

the people that are going to own guns likely didnt turn theirs in, as it wasnt manditory, and the people that did and do end up owning guns, good for them.

when they do buy backs, are they mandatory or something? no one was forced to turn their toy guns in or face extra homework.

These children are so young, most (if not all) of them have probably never even given adult gun ownership a second's thought.

He's clearly demonizing firearms, why else would he do this? Think about it, if he thought firearms and responsible gun ownership were positive (or even neutral) attributes, then why would he try to prevent children from growing up to be gun owners?

so you are demonising the principal and even second guess what he thinks
he got the idea from a photographer (in the linked story) if you bothered to read that
maybe the photographer demonises guns but there is not enough information
and you clearly demonise everyone who does not think about guns the same way you do

btw, better follow up on your various provincial elections around the world

That isn't for the principal to decide. There are a ton of responsible gun owners who live in cities. Arguably people living in the city need to exercise their right to bear arms more than anyone else, seeing as they're the most at risk of being attacked by criminal scum.

I'm pretty sure they are still free to do whatever they want, and the principal has no power over them outside the school. Stop acting like they are signing away their freedom by giving away a toy gun.
Personally, I think this is retarded and pointless, but it's also completely harmless. If the school wants to give books for toy guns, let them. Nobody is being forced to do anything.

A photographer? What a scholarly source! I shall ask my photographer friend if I can use him as the source for my next research paper.

But they shouldn't have to do anything. The fact that they are doing this shit is ridiculous. Just like all of those kids getting arrested for eating poptarts and saying their name in sign language.

let me quote from what you seemingly didn't read because you went all up in arms without reflecting:

Hill said he got the idea for the toy gun exchange from a photographer, Horace Gibson, who takes students' school pictures and who expressed concern about the spate of shootings of young people by police in Oakland.

are you jumping up and down if a father let's a kid play with a real gun (just showing the kid some responsibility with guns)?
are you just as jumpy on other issues? do other people have no right to express their opinions?
you definitely have to work on your social skills

Which is even more ridiculous. "Own a gun? You deserve to die!"

The photographer's reasons for taking a picture has nothing to do with the principal's reasons for trying to push his anti-freedom agenda.
