Cool story bro. At the end of the day though, indy games rely on graphics engines that have already been built.

Prior to this, you could just get venture capital to raise a proper development team. Do you know what they ask for now? How are you going to prevent piracy so that sales translate to me making money? That means raising more money so that you can come up with innovative ways to prevent piracy.

Come up with a system that generates profit, path of exile is doing fine.
And i know many indie games that use their own engines.

There's always an exception. Doesn't change the fact even those developers on Kickstarter have disdain for piracy. Kickstarter is also a response to piracy, not a response to state of video games. It's a sign of how bad a shape the video game industry is in.

Almost all PC games are console ports. Skyrim was, but Skyrim on PC is the best version. Games like that are dying. We won't have games like Skyrim that are just as good on the PC if not better than they are on console.

The ports of GTA III-Vice City-San Andreas were just as good as the console version. GTA IV was not. GTA V won't even get a PC release. Blame piracy for a game that unlike the Call of Duty's of the world has taken 5+ years of development, crafting, and originality, but won't get on the PC because of piracy.

You know rockstar has ALWAYS announced pc release dates long after console right, since vice city, i will bet money it is out on pc this year.
Not that i would play a console port on pc anyway.
And again, the pressure in this case not to pc release comes from take 2 not rockstar.
Typical greedy wanker publishers wanting to milk all they can.

Herrp derrp "The COntant inderstry is failin bercuz of tha mean piratz so thay hve hed to evolve exacytly lieke lifebane99 sed"
No shit, no one wants to buy a fucking cd anymore.
Steam is turning over massive profits, kickstarter projects are bringing out something we have not seen for years ORIGINAL EXCITING CONTENT.
Piracy is the best thing that ever happened to pc gaming.
Oh no, no more call of duty?
Thank god for that.
God forbid we actually have games that are not the 16th identical game in a row with a few slight changes.

EVERY game i am looking forward to right now was kickstarted or put on steam or a similar system, or released DRM FREE on good old games.

Blizzard went downhill because they cater to carebears and have dumbed down classic Diablo formula. Diablo 2 was so hugely successful and had such a long life due to competitive PvP. D3 hasn't even patched it in yet, and once they do then here comes re-balancing! Going to be the biggest mess ever. Terrible seeing a company bungle such a big IP.

Played that for the first two beta testing periods and it is awesome. It was pretty good, then they changed some things like skill interactions and functions and it is way better. It is Diablo 2's spiritual successor.

I play EVE Online, which you pretty much need a BA in economics to be an industrialist in and PvP really means something because when a spaceship blows up it is gone and you better hope you have it insured.

I play DUST 514 on PS3, it is in Beta, and it is in the universe and uses the mechanics of EVE online...both MMO worlds are connected and share a server and interact in which EVE spaceships do orbital strikes and provide material support to DUST ground soldiers, and DUST ground soldiers/mercs secure planet surface area for mineral exploitation.

There is really no other game like EVE online. It is truly laissez-faire....no company interference to scamming, griefing, pirating, ransoming, etc, with a detailed market and contract system. It is always funny when some corporate CEO robs his corporation blind.

How far back in the day? EVE just had its Tenth Anniversary. It is just getting bigger and bigger. It is all on one server to...when space fights get too big time dilation kicks in and everything kicks into slow motion and it is awesome.

But there is the infamous EVE learning curve which makes it hard to break into:

In case you can't tell I'm plugging the product. If anybody wants to play the client is free and if you get good you can pay your subscription with in game currency, which makes it monetized. This is great because these 30 day game blocks can be bought and traded and used for subscription. This monetizes the game, which is what makes the PvP meaningful. If you lose an expensive ship you feel it...that is why you don't fly what you can't afford to lose :p

You can largely avoid pvp in high sector space though and I'd be willing to take young pilots under my wing. I can invite people for 15 free days and the client is free to DL. I've made this into a commercial, but I'd love to have people I know blowing up stuff or helping me expand a growing industrial presence. Skill training is passive and you just load it and wait...no grinding...so it is good for people who work for a living or have a family. There are no classes or levels either, only skills. And you're just a spaceship, its only in space. If you want to play on the ground get a PS3 and download DUST 514 for free on it...I'll play with you there too!

Red Dead Redemtion hasn't got a PC release date annoucement and never will, because Rockstar said it will not happen. Rockstar publishes their own games, Take-Two owns them but does not interfere. It is Rockstar's decisions not to release PC versioins.
