Try to come up with some evidence, instead of a strawman.

My evidence is that historians, who know more about history than both you and me, believe that Jesus existed....and they used the historical method to do it. If anything, it is YOUR job to prove why the historical method doesn't work. You must also be aware of the ramifications of doing so (i.e. applying the same argument to all historical figures).

His argument, whilst being an argument from authority (NOT A STRAWMAN), will hold if the authority is a legitimate expert on the subject and a consensus exists among legitimate experts on the matter under discussion.

It has a good chance of holding really. It is up to you to prove the experts wrong.
